Guided by expert printmaker Carol Wilhide-Justin you will learn how to translate your ideas into the graphic formats of woodcut and linocut. This course is a perfect introduction to relief printing and is open to all, from complete beginners to those with more experience.
To add a seasonal touch to the experience students may decide to print cards rather than paper prints. Either way we hope you will enjoy the opportunity to develop or learn new skills and potentially create gifts for Christmas.
The studio is a low-toxic environment with dedicated printmaking facilities for professional hands‐on learning. Students benefit from the diversity of attendees, taught by internationally renowned printmaking artists at a central location, offering a unique educational experience in London.

The central focus is to question our conditioning; how historical, political, social, gendered and other factors have influenced our relation to the visual world around us, and therefore our relation to visual art. The general daily structure of this course will be as follows: every day we will begin with an introduction to visual and theoretical references. Then we will then paint until mid-afternoon, at which point we will have a discussion about each participant’s work. The last day of the course the participants will make a self-directed painting for half of the day, after lunch we will do a crit on the work, in which everyone will receive comments from the group and have a chance to respond.

This eleven-week course is an introduction to abstract painting. The course‘s emphasis is on both the discussion and the practical aspects; making us question our aesthetic attractions and our decision making. You will look at working with colour and texture and culminate your course in an own self-directed painting.
