This 6 week course is a wonderfully relaxing way to start the weekend and develop drawing and creative skills both for beginners and advanced drawers. The course is suitable for all skill levels and is designed to enable students to express a creative response to either museum artworks, or outdoor environment. The tutor will meet each student at their unique individual level. The course locations may vary nearer the time in response to the current situation. We will draw in indoor locations such as cafes and undercover markets where possible. Students will learn fundamental observational skills such structural drawing, measuring, tone and basic perspective. As well as develop an understanding of how artworks are put together to create particular impressions upon the viewer.

Both a vital stand alone discipline and arguably the foundation for all other types of art, drawing and the ever-fascinating world of portraiture collide in this inspiring portrait drawing course. Working mainly from models, students will explore portrait through a practical and structured approach. Measurement and anatomy will be complemented with more experimental ways of working, critical analysis and group discussion, all with the aim of instilling the confidence needed to marry physical likeness with personal artistic expression. A vibrant and supportive studio environment will be created by your tutor who will encourage you to explore and push yourself through both the discipline and subject. This course will improve traditional portrait drawing skills as well as push contemporary portrait drawing understanding. We recommend completing a beginners drawing course or having basic drawing skills before signing up for this course.

This course is designed for students who have either completed our ‘Drawing for Beginners 1’ and 'Drawing for Beginners 2' courses or already have some experience of drawing, and want to take their skills to the next level. Over the course, students will explore drawing from observation, memory and imagination, thereby developing a deeper understanding of drawing and greatly enhancing drawing skills. Each week we focus on a particular aspect of drawing. Starting with measurement and explore this in different contexts, so that students will gain confidence in drawing a wide variety of subjects including still life, life models, and urban landscape. Through trying different approaches and materials, students will begin to develop a ‘visual vocabulary’ of drawing. There will be opportunities to work both, inside and outside the studio, and in museums and galleries.

Understanding the structure of the human figure and the way it is situated within a space is an essential skill for anyone keen to develop their drawing and observational skills. Each week you will have a different theme to explore, working from the life model with guidance from our highly experienced tutor. With an encouraging focus exploring your own approach to drawing, you will work through a series of exercises, using a wide range of materials including charcoal and graphite. This course teaches skills and expressive drawing in a unique way to develop your drawing most effectively, and is suitable for more advanced drawers as well as beginners.

The “Open Life Class” is a relaxed and enjoyable life drawing & painting course with a life model for various poses lasting between one and four weeks at a time. Students will be able to approach the human figure in any way they please and do as many drawings or paintings as they care to pursue with as much or as little instruction as they like. Your experienced tutors will happily guide both beginners and the more experienced painters. Students should feel free to use whichever materials that they enjoy the most, whether that is drawing in charcoal or ink or painting in oils or acrylics. All paper is provided for the course but please bring your own drawing/painting materials. You can also attend this class as a drop-in and pay £30 per session via our Eventbrite page.

The “Open Life Class - Short Pose” is a relaxed and enjoyable life drawing & painting course with a life model. The model will pose for Short lengths, ranging from 1 minute - 20 minutes . Students will be able to approach the human figure in any way they please and do as many drawings or paintings as they care to pursue with as much or as little instruction as they like. Your experienced tutors will happily guide both beginners and the more experienced painters. Students should feel free to use whichever materials they enjoy the most, whether that is drawing in charcoal or ink or painting in oils or acrylics. A well-structured and systematic course for those who have never painted or drawn before. Students learn to see colour, shape and tone and relate all these elements together in various compositions. This course aims to foster self-confidence and enjoyment of drawing and painting in a stimulating environment. There will be an opportunity to work from a life model as well as working from still life. It is an ideal course for beginners as there is plenty of guidance from the tutor.
