Martin Brown’s artwork, looks at the urban landscape as being like a visual timeline, where different periods and styles combine and present a whole that speaks about our contemporary place. Primarily representational works, they are located within the painting tradition, where he draws on and comments on the history of painting, exploring techniques from the past and present, and the layering of different painterly styles to form a visual timeline of the city. Exploring ideas around memory, perception and time. Martin has a BFA and Dip Fine arts from the National Art School in Sydney Australia, where he tutored in painting. After exhibiting extensively in Australia, primarily at the commercial gallery ‘Australian Galleries’ Martin relocated to London in 2003. He has been included in group exhibitions in Australia, China, Ireland, Russia and the United Kingdom. He has had solo exhibitions in London, Basel, Sydney and most recently was a two person show in Paris in 2016. His works are held in important private and public collections. In 2016 Martin was awarded the founders prize for the ING Discerning Eye
