Having attended an open day at the Academy, I was inspired by the method of teaching as well as their ethos, so was very keen to enrol to enhance with the aim of enhancing my work. Speaking with the Principal, I explained that I felt stuck in my practice and would welcome further guidance. I was selling my art, but was not really content with the body of work I was showing. Tanya had suggested the ‘Painting in Practice’ course would help me develop as an artist.
Since then I havn’t looked back – the time has flown by, my work has improved and I am so pleased that I made the decision and am so grateful for all the advice and encouragement I have received. The course was really good fun and enjoyable as well as being thoroughly insightful. Everyone in the class had their own style which was inspiring and interesting.
For me, the most beneficial aspect was exploring my ideas using different techniques, the tutors were encouraging and offered a depth of knowledge and skills which allowed me to execute my ideas. Whilst painting in oils, I learnt about different glazes, mediums and finishes which added a new dimension to my work.
During the course there were times when I felt stuck, but there were always exercises to help me move forward, and see the process from a completely new perspective. I feel my work is more accomplished from when I started, and in turn this has enabled me to exhibit in new, more established galleries.
During the whole time at the academy the support from the office was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble and all queries were dealt with immediately and satisfactorily. The Art Academy definitely feels like a family – a small community where you can be involved as much or as little as one likes.
I am pleased to say I have grown more confident in my work and how I express myself on canvas. The whole experience at the Academy has very much been a transformative journey not only in terms of my art but also within myself. Not being a resident of London is not an issue as the Academy is easily asses and only a 5 minute walk from London Bridge station.
