Relief Printing: Lino Reduction (Tuesdays, 23rd July – 20th August): a five-week course teaching you how to carve a linoleum plate to develop a series of reduction relief prints in multiple colour combinations.

Introduction to Oil Painting (Thursdays, 25th July – 26th September): learn to see colour, shape and tone, and how to relate these elements together in a composition. You’ll work from both still-life and a model with plenty of guidance from an expert tutor as you build your confidence in painting with oils.

Drawing for Beginners (Thursdays, 25th July – 26th September): an accessible, creative and relaxing introduction to the basic skills of drawing. You’ll explore line, tone, measurement, texture and composition through still life, life drawing and portraiture.

Portrait Painting (Thursdays, 25th July – 26th September): learn to see form and colour accurately to better create loose, expressive portraits. Working with oil paints and two life models each week, you’ll develop short expressive painting sketches and longer, more detailed pieces.

Weekend Creative Mix (3rd & 4th August): a great taster course to help you develop your skills and get creative with your own ideas. Over five days, you’ll complete various exercises in drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking.

Linocut Masterclass with Nick Morley (9th – 11th August): this course is chance for you to learn from a master of hand-carved linocuts, Nick Morley (aka ‘Linocut Boy’), using professional tools and applying different printing techniques to create a range of effects.

Drawing For All (17th & 18th August): this is a great weekend course, teaching you fundamental drawing skills including measurement, drawing the figure, and tonal drawing. You’ll also be encouraged to be creative and expressive, exploring different drawing materials and experimenting with line and contrast.

Kiln Formed Glass (29th July – 2nd August): this is an all-round opportunity to experiment with technical glass-making skills from a sculptural perspective, before completing an independent project. You’ll cover a range of techniques, including open casting, fusing and slumping. You’ll also learn how to use coloured glass to create a 3D sculptural form of your own design.

Drawing Views of London (27th August-30th September): a wonderful opportunity to explore outdoor sketching at various sites near the Academy. Each day, your tutor will introduce a new material or drawing technique for you to explore, including charcoal and tone, drawing the figure in motion, and structure, perspective and proportion.

Pewter Casting using the “Lost Wax” Technique (27th August – 30th September): a practical, workshop-based course suitable for beginners and experienced artists who want to experiment with metal cast sculpture. You’ll have hands-on tuition in how to model a sculpture in wax, cast in pewter using plaster waste moulds, and the ‘lost wax’ casting technique.

Textile Art and Surface Texture (27th August-30th September 2019): explore the power of the needle and the ways stitch has been used as a tool of subversion in this interesting new course. You’ll learn techniques and processes, explore how they can be used in your own work, and engage in discussion about what it means to use stitch in fine art practice in the 21st century.
