The beauty of sculpting a ‘classical’ torso lies in its ability to hone the sculptor’s focus on the meticulous modelling of forms. The main focus of this course will be capturing the gesture and proportion of the model. By creating sculptures slightly larger in size, students will gain a deeper understanding of bone structures, tensed muscles, and the softness of flesh. Time will be spent looking at how to represent light and shadow; to create a nuanced likeness of the model that compositionally leads the eye around the piece.
Over 8 weeks you will create a torso sculpture by exploring the following stages:
Once you have completed this course, why not look at joining one of our Sculpture Masterclasses which are led by our experienced tutors and practicing sculptors. Find more information here.
