This stimulating and exciting  course is taking place over 4 consecutive Sunday mornings and is an ideal way to explore a wide variety of artistic methods and media, learn new skills, discover what you enjoy most, and develop creative ideas. Students will work across the different disciplines of painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. Students will have a chance to improve observational drawing skills; try out more expressive sculpture and painting, and learn how to approach the human figure, using a variety of materials and methods. This is a great ‘taster’ course and an excellent opportunity to develop new skills, explore materials and have fun.

What level is this course?

This course is suitable for all levels. Students can move at their own pace depending on their experience, with as much support from the Tutor as they wish.

  • Beginner

Choose a Beginners course if you are looking for a broad introduction to the medium you are studying. Students spend time learning the very basics of the taught medium, for example, how to mix colours, use different tools, set up an easel. Our Beginner courses are suitable for students with no prior experience, they tend to follow a more structured path than our other courses, ensuring each student receives the guidance they need from the tutor.

  • Beginner +

Choose a Beginner + course if you are looking to hone your skills, focus on a specific subject area and build your confidence. These courses are suitable for those with some basic skills in and knowledge of the taught medium, but still follow a structured path with guidance from the tutor.

  • Intermediate

Our Intermediate courses are suitable for students who have considerable prior knowledge of the taught medium or have completed a Beginners/Beginners + course with the Art Academy.

These courses tend to be less structured and instead are tailored to the classes’ needs and the direction they want to advance in. Choose an Intermediate course if you are looking to improve your skills and have more critical discussions around the work you produce.

  • Advanced

Choose our Advanced courses if you have considerable knowledge in the taught medium. You are expected to be able to work independently and have critical discussions around your work.

Our Advanced courses include our Masterclasses.

All attendees must be aged 18 or over.

What should I bring?

All materials are supplied for this course. Please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, or bring an apron.

About Your Tutor

ANTHONY WATERS

Anthony makes artworks which explore movement and “aliveness” through an energetic interaction with a variety of media. Apart from being an end in itself, figurative work and studies from nature are sometimes the starting point for the development of more abstract sculptures and paintings. This is often inspired by existing stories, myths and folklore – seeking new expressions of timeless themes.

All aspects of the sculptural process and the changes of state involved in production contribute creatively to what is made.

Recently alongside portrait commissions he has been a member of the Kiln Rooms, developing freeform sculpture utilising a range of clays, glazes and firing techniques. Shows over the last year include the Chelsea Arts Society annual show, Morley Bronzes exhibition, Kiln Rooms Summer open studios and “Surface” a shop-based exhibition of ceramic art & sculpture.

BEÑAT OLABERRIA

Originally from the Basque country in Northern Spain, Beñat Olaberria is a London based artist graduated from City and Guilds from London Art School with an MA in Fine Art. With a non impressionistic, non narrative and non reductive approach to making, Beñat´s practice explores the unknown territories of his mind. Like in an unplanned walk, he is interested in constructing abstract pieces as a reaction to his first nervous, unplanned and impulsive mark-making until the desired balance is achieved though his visual logic and personal language.

Beñat has taken part in numerous group exhibitions around the UK and his work can be found in private collections across Europe and USA. He has recently had solo shows in Barcelona and Switzerland and London.
