In this interesting new course, you will experiment with a range of materials that you may not be familiar with, including different paints, textiles, plaster casting and mixed-media. The course aims to help you develop a new range of skills and expand your artistic vocabulary, and culminates in a personal project on the final day where you can translate your ideas and interests into a finished artwork using the techniques and media you have learned about. There will be time for one-to-one guidance and input from the tutor on days 3 to 5, to further help and encourage you to develop your own ideas and artistic projects. Please be aware that on Friday the class finishes at 4.30pm.

What level is this course?

This course is suitable for students between the ages of 12 to 14 and is open to all skill levels.

  • Young Artists - Aged 12-14

    Chose this course if you are aged between 12 & 14. This course is open to all skill levels, whether you love art and are looking to advance you artistic skills and creative confidence or are new to the subject and want a bit of an introduction!

What should I bring?

Please bring old clothes and two jam jars or containers for water.  Please also bring a camera/phone to photo document your work.

Preparation for the Personal Project day: students should bring in a range of images of a place, object, or concept, that excites and inspires them, to help develop their personal project.

About Your Tutor

GAIL SERES-WOOLFSON

Gail’s paintings reflect her fascination with the urban landscape, figures and stories around her, and an interplay between structure and spontaneity, observation and re-imagining. She has exhibited across the capital and her work has been shortlisted for the inaugural Evening Standard Contemporary Painting Prize and the prestigious Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and is held in private collections in the UK and internationally. Gail enjoys teaching in a variety of settings, encouraging and supporting students to develop their skills and style with a range of approaches and artistic references.

FARNOUSH AMINI MRSS

Farnoush was born in Iran and now lives and works in London. She graduated from Art Academy London in July 2019. Her work is influenced by Iran’s revolution, war, religion and political situation. Her practice consists of installation and performance art in which she explores different material from organic to man-made, using religious and cultural symbols. Her material language encompasses human hair, fabric, feather, metal, clay, concrete, ice, tarmac and read-made objects which she uses to create tensions and relationships between organic and non-organic matter. She has exhibited at Espacio and Menier Galleries in London. In 2018 she was commissioned by Springfield Psychiatric University Hospital in London. In 2018 she won the “People’s Choice Award” by Passion for Freedom Art Festival at the La Galleria Pall Mall and The Royal Opera Arcade Galleries in London. In 2019 she was shortlisted and won the Sheroes Revoluciones Art Prize by Lon-art Creative in London. In 2020 she was selected to exhibit at the Nauvele Vague gallery in Marbella, Spain. She was also elected as a member of Royal Society of Sculptors in 2020.

Refreshments and Facilities

The common room can be used by individuals from the same class at scheduled break times only.

The kitchen can be used for handwashing and waste disposal facilities only.

Please note, students will not be able to use the kitchen to prepare hot drinks and/or food.

Students will be able to use the coffee machine, where free hot water, and paid-for hot drinks are available.

Mugs will not be available for use, and students are strongly encouraged to bring their own reusable mugs if they wish to use the coffee machine.

Further Details

  • You will need to have paid in full before the first session of your class. Your place is not guaranteed until we have received full payment. Please book early in order to guarantee your place on the course.
  • If you purchased a pack online this will be given to you on the first session of your course upon your arrival. Packs can be purchased on our Materials Page or on the individual course page when you make your booking.
  • Please don’t wear your best clothes as there is always a chance you will get messy. If possible bring an apron or overalls.
  • All artwork MUST be taken home at the end of the course or it will be disposed of. Paintings that need to dry should be collected within a week. For clay sculptures that need hollowing and firing, you will receive a separate email when they can be collected.
  • Please ensure that your mobile phone is switched off or is on silent during the class.
  • Health and Safety Guidelines will be provided to you at the beginning of your class.
  • Sometimes our photographer will pop in to get some images of our classes in progress. We will typically inform you beforehand if photography is taking place during your class; if you do not want to be photographed please let the photographer know!
