Course Dates Monday & Wednesday & Friday, 4th& 6th & 8th April 2022
Days 3
Times 10am - 4.30pm
Experience Level Intermediate/Advanced
Fee £220
Location Online

This online workshop offers an ideal way to develop your portrait sculpture skills alongside others – from the comfort of your home or studio. The ability to interpret and translate photographs into three dimensions is an art that demands a particular skill set. The course aims to equip participants with the tools to develop those skills – and the online environment provides a perfect context for focusing on the challenges involved.

As well as practical exercises and demonstrations, we’ll be drawing on participants’ experience, memory, and imagination – so it will help to have some confidence in handling clay and/or drawing from observation. Consequently, the course is best suited to intermediate and advanced students.

Over the course of three days, you’ll be making a 3/4 scale portrait in clay from reference photos provided digitally in advance for printing out in hard copy.

The course has been designed to offer a good balance between screen time and time working on your own. The split week helps to mitigate ‘zoom fatigue’ – and provides an opportunity to either continue working or take a day’s break.

What level is this course?

This is an Intermediate/ Advanced course.

About Your Tutor

BROOK HOBBINS

Brook Hobbins trained at Camberwell School of Art, West Surrey College of Art and Syracuse University, NY, USA where she gained a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture. Brook combines her expertise as fine artist, designer, and draftsperson to inform her approach to sculpture and to teaching. Clay is her primary medium with portrait and figurative sculpture forming her core practice.

Brook is a member of the Society of Portrait Sculptors and has been showing regularly at their annual exhibition since 2014. As well as working to commission and showing locally, she mounts regular pop-up studio events, showcasing live portraiture in venues around Kent.
