An ideal start point for those wishing to explore sculpture techniques and ideas. This course covers both foundation technical skills and a creative exploration of different materials and ways of working. Sculpture is wonderfully fun and creative and with some simple skills taught, great results can be achieved. The first half of the term comprises three weeks of figurative sculpture in clay with a life model and two weeks of portraiture with another life model, also in clay. The second half of the term is an introduction to plaster, wire and other materials, culminating in a personal project. Students leave the course with a strong foundation of sculpture skills as well as an individual approach to the practice.

What should I bring?
Please bring old clothes or an apron as you may get messy!
Most equipment and materials are provided but depending on your chosen creative approach in the latter part of the course, you may need to source some materials yourself, also bring your own sketchbook if you have one.
If you work in clay without an armature, you will be offered the opportunity to have your clay pieces fired. Hollowing is necessary before a piece can be fired. This is optional and additional hollowing and firing costs will apply.

£15 for a small figure; £20 for a portrait head; £20 for a large figure

About Your Tutor
FARNOUSH AMINI MRSS
Farnoush was born in Iran but she lives and works in London. She graduated from the Art Academy London in July 2019. Her work has been influenced by Iran’s revolution, war, religion and political situation. Her practice consists of installation and performance art in which she explores different material from organic to man-made, using religious and cultural symbols. Her material language encompasses human hair, fabric, feather, metal, clay, concrete, ice, tarmac and read-made objects which she uses to create tensions and relationships between organic and non-organic matter.
She has exhibited at Espacio and Menier Galleries in London. In 2018 she was commissioned by Springfield Psychiatric University Hospital in London.
In 2018 she won the “People’s Choice Award” by Passion for Freedom Art Festival at the La Galleria Pall Mall and The Royal Opera Arcade Galleries in London.
In 2019 she was shortlisted and won the Sheroes Revoluciones Art Prize by Lon-art Creative in London. In 2020 she was selected to exhibit at the Nauvele Vague gallery in Marbella, Spain. She was also elected as a member of Royal Society of Sculptors in 2020.
MARIAN ROWLING
Marian is a Hampshire based sculptor and workshop tutor, classically trained at London Fine Art Studios where she went on to join the faculty as a sculpture instructor. With strong foundational skills in sculpture, drawing and anatomy she now teaches across the South East whilst working on portrait commissions and her own gestural figurative work.

Refreshments and Facilities
You are welcome to use our Common Room/ The Barn during break times, where you can prepare hot drinks and/or food.
Students will also be able to use the coffee machine, where free hot water, and paid-for hot drinks are available.
Students are encouraged to bring their own reusable mugs and water bottles where possible.
Further Details
- You will need to have paid in full before the first session of your class. Your place is not guaranteed until we have received full payment. Please book early in order to guarantee your place on the course.
- If you purchased a pack online this will be given to you on the first session of your course upon your arrival. Packs can be purchased on our Materials Page or on the individual course page when you make your booking.
- Please don’t wear your best clothes as there is always a chance you will get messy. If possible bring an apron or overalls.
- All artwork MUST be taken home at the end of the course or it will be disposed of. Paintings that need to dry should be collected within a week. For clay sculptures that need hollowing and firing, you will receive a separate email when they can be collected.
- Please ensure that your mobile phone is switched off or is on silent during the class.
- Health and Safety Guidelines will be provided to you at the beginning of your class.
- Sometimes our photographer will pop in to get some images of our classes in progress. We will typically inform you beforehand if photography is taking place during your class; if you do not want to be photographed please let the photographer know!
