‘Sculpting in Metal’ is an opportunity to explore the various practical processes involved in making a steel sculpture, over a period of 10 weeks. The course is open to students who have no experience in metalwork, as well as those who wish to refine their skill set. This course is an excellent opportunity to work on an individual project in a workshop with an experienced tutor. You will receive tailored guidance from your tutor, theoretical and technical assistance throughout the 5 weeks. The course provides the required knowledge, practical skills, and Health and Safety guidance to work with welders, angle grinders, plasma cutters and other specialist metal working machinery. Once you are comfortable using the equipment, you will develop your own project. You will cover the theoretical attributes of metal and its many connotations within art, through learning about the work of artists such as Eva Rothschild, Louise Bourgeois, Sokari Douglas and Sofu Teshigahara.
You will gain the skills to develop your own sculpture, or series of sculptures within your practice. You will receive individual feedback from the tutor and group feedback on your work
