Congratulations to all our alumni and tutors who had work accepted into the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Society of Portrait Sculptors annual open exhibitions. Full list below.

Fine Art Graduate and Deputy Head of Painting Sue Spaull and our Head of Painting Tai-Shan Schierenberg both had work on show at this year’s RP Exhibition at the Mall Galleries. Tutors James Lloyd, Melissa Scott-Miller, Robin-Lee Hall, Anastasia Pollard and Tim Benson were also included.

Fine Art alumnus Arabella Brooke had her portrait sculpture included in The Society of Portrait Sculptors 2014 Exhibition, alongisde work by tutors Marcus Cornish, Hazel Reeves, Mark Richards and Gilbert Whyman.

Congratulations to sculptor Gary Scott who has just unveiled a public sculpture at the entrance courtyard to St Nicholas Court, St Ives, Cornwall. Here are some pictures of the piece entitled “Free Spirit” and the mayor revealing it publically for the firs time. “Free Spirit” is Gary’s first commission since graduating from our Fine Art programme last summer and of the occasion he said….

“All in all a truly wonderful experience – a rare opportunity and a real honour to have a sculpture in my beloved St Ives…”

See photos here from The Art Academy’s Graduate Show 2013. The show had work from students graduating from our Fine Art programme and Certificate Courses in Painting, Drawing and Sculpture, as well as for the first time ever our Fine Art Foundation.

The Art Academy had another very successful year in the RP show at the Mall Galleries which opened this week.

2nd Year Student Saskia Gall has had a painting accepted into the show and student Kinga Markus had a self-portrait accepted into the SELF category. Ex Student Melodie Cook also had a drawing selected.

There was a host of The Art Academy Tutors also in the show including our Head of Painting Robin-Lee Hall and our Head of Drawing Brendan Kelly.
Other Tutors on show included Andrew James, Tim Benson, Melissa Scott-MillerAnastasia Pollard and Resident Artist James Lloyd.



The Art Academy has just awarded its annual Wolfendale Prize. Sir Arnold Wolfendale FRS, former Astronomer Royal, generously sponsors £300 for the best individual 2d or 3d  artwork inspired by science and nature.

The winner of this year’s prize was Rennee Barclay with runner up prizes awarded to Saskia Gall and Brecht Govaerts. Congratulations to all.
