Many students come to us with the determination and talent to make it as practicing artists, but lacking the financial means to fulfil their potential, and in the current climate, we believe that students need as much help as possible to enable them to study Fine Art. At the Academy, we are passionate about finding ways to make this happen so we provide a number of bursaries every year to our long course students.
Bursaries and your financial needs should be discussed at interview. Recipients of bursaries will be chosen during their interview and notified after the interview process.
If your financial situation changes during study, you should inform our Course Coordinator as soon as possible so a review can take place and we can do our best to help you.
1. Who can apply for bursaries?
You must have accepted an offer to study at the Art Academy London on an undergraduate degree or our Foundation course.
Your household income must be below £40k or £60 where there are a number of dependants in the household.
2. Do I have to apply for the bursary each year?
Academic bursaries are applied for, and allocated on, an annual basis (though it is likely that bursary awards will be honoured over subsequent years of your programme, unless you have a significant change in your financial circumstances).
3. How much are the bursaries worth?
You can get a bursary for an amount up to the value of 50% of the annual tuition fees. In all cases an applicant must be able to pay the remainder of the course fees. The value of the bursary is deducted from the fee amount payable.
If you decide to pay the remainder of the fees termly or by a payment plan, these will be subject to published surcharges. Fees for subsequent years are subject to annual inflationary increases (of not more than 5%), prior to the deduction of the awarded bursary amount.
4. Is there an expected level of academic achievement?
We want all of our students to do well and there are no ‘performance’ related conditions with the Academic Bursary. However, bursary recipients are required to meet the Academy’s minimum attendance requirement of 80%, adhere to the student charter, regulations and policies. Failure to meet these requirements may result in reduction in, or withdrawal of your bursary offers in subsequent years.
As a recipient of a bursary you agree to allow the Academy to use your work, likeness and name in any promotional activities intended to raise funds for academic bursaries. From time to time, you may also be requested to attend fundraising events, to this end.
The application form is divided into sections:

The main purpose of this section is so that you can have an overview of your own expenditure and consider budgeting for your period of study.
Study costs; while you may know some of the figures accurately (i.e. fees) most of the information within this section will be expected to be an estimate.
Domestic costs; again, most of the information within this section will be expected to be an estimate. You should provide a bank statement highlighting rent/ mortgage costs. You may be asked for proof of other, specific outgoings.
The total costs of both subsections (study and domestic costs) should match the total funding plan.
External funding
If you have applied for or are planning to apply for external funding, please input the information in this section, even if you haven’t yet received an outcome for the application (state successful, rejected or pending in the last column).
Funding plan
In this section you must submit a breakdown of where the funding will come from to cover the expenditure detailed. The total in the funding plan should match the total costs in the expenditure section.
Supporting information
You should provide any information here that you think is relevant in aiding us to make a decision about your eligibility for an Academic Bursary. You may wish to disclose any circumstances that you feel may affect employment or difficulties in raising funds for your studies.
Request, Declaration & Confirmation (if applicable)
You will need to supply the required supporting evidence and agree that you will notify us upon a change of circumstances within the academic year that means you no longer require the awarded bursary.
If you are not the main household income provider and someone else is contributing to cover your expenses, this person must sign and date the relevant section.
