The Art Academy – London

Lynne Abrahamson

I am interested in the maternal and in trying to express the world of women as mothers. By making art about the home, my aim is to give this world validity and worth.

Odd socks, shopping receipts, a meal, the usually overlooked and discarded everyday objects are turned into art works which, I hope, will be viewed in a new way once the functional elements have been removed. I also want to question what is considered as suitable subject matter for fine art.

I use a mixture of ceramics and fabric/embroidery in my work. Both mediums are associated with women and the home and both are generally considered secondary to the fine art mediums of painting and sculpture.
