Taught by experienced, pre-eminent portrait and figure painters, the Saturday Portrait and Figure Painting Class introduces students to different approaches to portraiture and figure painting. This term, Ed Sutcliffe and James Bland will look at the Clothed Figure. During weeks 1 – 5, Ed will focus on the basic requirements for creating a painting of the clothed figure. Students will work both in tone and colour, from a series of short poses and then from a long 3 week pose, enabling them each to create their own painting. The class will enable students to work at their own pace, to take account of different levels of ability and experience. In weeks 6 – 10, James will continue to look at issues of proportion, tone and colour, as well as lighting and composition. The course is aimed at both beginners and students with experience of portrait or other painting.
